Here’s what’s making news in Minnesota today:

KSTP: 109 GM dealerships in Minn. facing issues

“From complete elimination, to the loss of a particular brand, to the demand that they get rid of competing manufacturer brands in their stores-109 Minnesota General Motors dealerships face one of these dilemmas, according to the Minnesota Auto Dealers Association.”

St. Cloud Times: Central Minnesota home sales show improvement

Looking for signs of hope wherever we can find it.

“The most recent figures available from the St. Cloud Area Association of Realtors show sales of non-foreclosed single-family homes increased 3 percent from April 2008 to April 2009. Sales of foreclosed homes in the five-city area increased in that time, as well.”

Star Tribune: 57% of 11th-graders pass tougher math test

Let’s remember that while testing is important, it shouldn’t be the only tool used to measure student performance.

Minnesota Independent: Union members rally at St. Paul Wal-Mart

Hats off to the UFCW for standing up against this anti-worker company.

Pioneer Press: Minnesota legislators trumpet new incentives for solar power

Great policy; it’s good to remember that Minneapolis has more available rooftop solar energy potential than New York, Seattle, Portland and even Houston.

“The legislation includes $14.5 million in stimulus money for renewable energy projects, with a portion of that directed to solar-related projects. At least $3 million, for example, must be used for rebates for homeowners and businesses installing solar-powered systems.”
